The technology in today's cameras is so excellent, that you could be excused if you wanted to keep the camera permanently set to Auto mode. However, it order to be truly creative with your photography you need to switch it off of Auto and take control of your creativity. 

This workshop is all about getting to understand and be comfortable with the the features of your camera that will allow you to unleash your creativity.  

PHOTOGRAPHY ESSENTIALS CONTENT:


Photography with Intent 

Before we even press the shutter button there are a number of things that need to be considered. The best photographs begin with a deep breath and a little thought.

  • The difference between pictures and photos
  • Photography with intent and the art of slowing down
  • Considering the light
  • Identifying your subject
  • Composing the image

Exposure 

One of the foundation principles of photography is Exposure - capturing the light and the tones. Understanding how to manage exposure is an essential photography skill

  • Understanding Exposure and Correct Exposure
  • Aperture, Shutter Speed, ISO
  • Camera's Metering Modes
  • Depth of Field, Motion, Noise
  • Exposure Compensation
  • Camera Exposure Modes

Focus

Another important technique to understand in photography is the concept of focus. If you don’t focus properly, you will end up with blurry photos even when all your other camera settings are correct

  • Understanding your camera's focus points
  • Selecting the Focus Area
  • Moving Focus points
  • When to use the various focus modes
  • Focus and Recompose

Putting it all together

This workshop is a combination of presentations, worksheets that will help you to identify your camera features and practical exercises to help you to consolidate the theory. 

By the end of this workshop you should be able to identify your subject, composure your image and ensure that the exposure and focus are set correctly for the type of image you wish to capture. 

 

FITNESS LEVEL
A basic amount of fitness is required for this workshop. We will be walking short distances on level ground. 

PREREQUISITES
A basic understanding of your camera and navigating the menus is essential. Having your camera manual on hand is essential. 

STUDENT LIMIT
Workshop size will be between 4-6 students. We limit our workshop sizes to create a more individual learning environment.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?

  • Your Camera!  The bare minimum is a camera that can has manual and aperture priority exposure settings. 
  • Spare camera battery and charger
  • Appropriate clothing
