In this workshop, we demystify using speedlites and show you how you can get professional results without spending a fortune. You’ll learn how to control light and see basic flash techniques to let you get up and running using flash in your own work. 

Much of the afternoon session will be with your camera in-hand – shooting indoors and outdoors, we will reinforce the information presented during the seminar portions.

The secret to mastering your flash unit is learning to balance the ambient light with the light from the flash. We will learn to use the flash in a variety of circumstances and lighting conditions, including when to use the flash as the main light or the fill light. We will also explore the techniques for bouncing flash to create stunning portraits. 

The afternoon is all about putting our new knowledge to work as we photography our model in a variety of lighting conditions

  • 1st & 2nd Shutter Curtains
  • Flash Exposure Compensation
  • Flash Exposure Lock
  • Directional Bounce Flash


PREREQUISITES
You will get the most from this workshop if you are familiar with your cameras basic operations, including the adjustment of the aperture, shutter speed and ISO settings.

Know how to use the cameras various metering modes and if necessary take the time to review these things prior to the workshop.

STUDENT LIMIT
Class size will be between 4-6 students in order to make sure the instructor is able to give the appropriate level of support to all those attending.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?
Bring your camera and your external flash unit. Remember to charge the batteries and bring along spare batteries if you have them.

As the instructor cannot be well versed in all manufacturers types of flash units, it is highly recommend that you bring your flash manual along to the workshop.
